Health Officer (6‑month TA) – South Sudan

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Health Officer on a six‑month temporary assignment to support emergency health response in South Sudan. The role will provide technical assistance and operational support for public health emergency interventions, focusing on restoring primary health care services, strengthening disease surveillance, and ensuring the timely availability of essential medicines.

Key responsibilities

• Provide professional technical assistance for the design, planning, implementation, monitoring and coordination of public health emergency and health‑in‑emergencies interventions.
• Support delivery of integrated primary health care services through both static and mobile platforms.
• Strengthen disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness and response measures.
• Ensure timely availability and distribution of essential medicines and supplies.
• Coordinate with the Ministry of Health, Health Cluster partners and implementing partners.
• Conduct data analysis, reporting and knowledge‑management activities, and support capacity‑building efforts.
• Contribute to evidence‑based decision‑making aligned with UNICEF’s Core Commitments for Children and health emergency strategies.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree in public health, medicine, nursing or a related field.
• Experience working in health emergencies or humanitarian settings, preferably in conflict‑affected contexts.
• Proven ability to collaborate with government authorities, UN agencies and NGOs.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
