Protection Coordinator (Women's Protection and Empowerment)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Protection Coordinator to lead its Women’s Protection & Empowerment (WPE) programme in Darfur. This senior position provides strategic direction, technical oversight and quality assurance for GBV prevention and response activities in a complex, high‑risk humanitarian environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and continuously refine a Darfur‑specific WPE strategy aligned with IRC policies and global GBV standards.
• Ensure survivor‑centred, confidential GBV case management and referral services are delivered safely and timely.
• Provide technical leadership and supervision to WPE field teams, fostering a supportive and learning‑oriented work environment.
• Oversee ethical data collection, information management and the use of GBVIMS.
• Coordinate with other IRC sectors, senior management and external stakeholders to integrate protection interventions.
• Advocate for protection needs and contribute to programme monitoring, reporting and learning.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in GBV programming, protection coordination or related humanitarian fields.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams in insecure, low‑access settings.
• Strong understanding of international GBV standards, case management protocols and data protection principles.
• Excellent communication, advocacy and stakeholder‑engagement skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GBVIMS (Gender‑Based Violence Information Management System).
