Humanitarian Access and Safety Officer – Sudan (Kadugli)

About the role

The Humanitarian Access and Safety (HAS) Officer supports safe and principled programme delivery in Sudan’s Kadugli area. Working under the Area Manager and with technical guidance from the HAS Manager, the officer implements NRC’s HAS policies, plans and procedures while maintaining a strong presence in the field.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the NRC Global HAS Management System at area level and prepare required reports.
• Develop and maintain area‑level HAS documents such as contingency plans, access strategies and SOPs.
• Supervise HAS Assistants, provide performance feedback, and support recruitment, induction and capacity‑building.
• Monitor the humanitarian context, brief management on security developments, access challenges and emerging threats.
• Assist with Security Risk Assessments (SRAs) and rapid assessments for new locations, recommending mitigation measures.
• Conduct drills, train staff on access, safety and security topics, and deliver regular briefings.
• Liaise with UN agencies, NGOs, local authorities and other actors to share security information and protect humanitarian space.

Required profile

• Physically present in Kadugli and eligible to work in Sudan.
• Experience in humanitarian access, safety or security coordination.
• Ability to supervise staff and provide mentorship.
• Strong understanding of the local humanitarian context and security environment.
