Safety and Access Officer

About the role

The Safety and Access Officer will oversee all safety‑related matters for DRC personnel, assets and programmes in the assigned area of Sudan. The role ensures the Safety Risk Management System (SRMS) is applied, supports programme continuity and coordinates day‑to‑day movement and transportation in line with DRC standards and local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the focal point for safety coordination with local authorities, community leaders and security stakeholders.
• Represent DRC at inter‑agency safety forums and ensure compliance with local guidelines.
• Collect, verify, analyse and report information that may affect DRC operations.
• Conduct context and safety risk assessments, draft safety plans and update SOPs, LSRs, safety briefings and site evaluation checklists.
• Develop and maintain Safety Improvement Plans and monitor compliance with Minimum Operating Safety Standards (MOSS).
• Maintain the Emergency Data (RED) list and ensure all staff submit required forms.
• Provide regular security and context updates to DRC staff and support the Safety and Access Unit.

Required profile

• Proven experience in safety management within humanitarian or NGO settings.
• Strong knowledge of local security protocols and ability to liaise with authorities.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments and produce clear safety documentation.
• Excellent communication skills for briefing staff and coordinating with partners.
