About the role
The WHO is seeking a Public Health & Noncommunicable Diseases Officer to support the integration of NCD services within Sudan's health system, especially in fragile and emergency contexts. The role contributes to strengthening national capacity, ensuring continuity of essential NCD care, and aligning interventions with WHO standards.
Key responsibilities
- Support integration of NCD services across primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities.
- Provide technical assistance to develop essential NCD service packages based on WHO frameworks such as HEARTS and PEN.
- Strengthen workforce capacity through training, guideline development and professional development activities.
- Coordinate and monitor NCD activities within emergency preparedness and response mechanisms.
- Assist in procurement planning for NCD medicines, diagnostics and emergency kits.
- Develop operational tools including protocols, referral pathways and service delivery guidelines.
- Contribute to data collection, monitoring, reporting and integration of NCD indicators into national health information systems.
- Support research, surveys (e.g., STEPS) and documentation of best practices and lessons learned.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in public health, medicine or a related health science field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in public health programme implementation, preferably in NCDs or health‑systems strengthening.
- Experience in emergency or humanitarian contexts is an asset.
- Strong analytical, coordination and reporting abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with national authorities and partners in complex settings.
- Fluency in English.
