Protection Officer – Women Protection & Empowerment

About the role

The Protection Officer (Women Protection and Empowerment) will lead the Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) programme for the International Rescue Committee in Sudan. The role supervises GBV caseworkers and community mobilisers, ensures survivor‑centred case management, and coordinates holistic support for women and adolescent girls affected by conflict.

Key responsibilities

• Provide daily guidance, monitoring and supervision to GBV caseworkers and psychosocial support facilitators.
• Ensure individual case management and group MHPSS activities follow IRC guidelines, GBV minimum standards and WPE best practices.
• Receive, triage and follow up on referrals from IRC sectors and external partners, integrating women and girls promptly into appropriate services.
• Coordinate safe and confidential referrals to health, legal, psychosocial, shelter and other service providers.
• Lead risk‑reduction activities and strengthen coordination mechanisms with partners and community actors.
• Document activities, meetings and referrals in a timely and quality‑assured manner.

Required profile

• Experience supervising staff in humanitarian protection or GBV programmes.
• Strong understanding of GBV case management, survivor‑centred approaches and minimum standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multi‑sectoral partners and community representatives.
• Excellent communication, coaching and reflective practice skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of GBV case management protocols and guidelines.
• Familiarity with psychosocial support (PSS) group facilitation.
• Referral coordination across health, legal, shelter and protection services.
