Humanitarian Access, Safety and Security Officer

About the role

The Humanitarian Access, Safety and Security Officer will lead risk assessment, stakeholder engagement and case management activities to ensure the safety of staff and operations in high‑risk environments. This role supports the implementation of Save the Children’s Safety and Security Policy across country offices and field sites.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor local operational context and update contingency, hibernation and evacuation plans.
• Negotiate safe passage with local authorities, community leaders and armed actors.
• Provide training on safety and security procedures to all staff.
• Conduct security risk assessments for humanitarian emergency response.
• Manage security incident case investigations and reporting to senior stakeholders.
• Oversee access control to premises, security services, and critical communications equipment.
• Coordinate security mapping of operational locations and pre‑approval of rental premises.
• Participate in NGO security networks to share information and best practices.

Required profile

• Relevant professional qualification in security, safety or risk management.
• Proven experience in a similar safety and security management role within an NGO.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Strong interpersonal and presentation abilities.
