Security Operations Centre Assistant

About the role

The Security Operations Centre Assistant supports the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) in Sudan by managing telecommunications and radio communications for field and headquarters staff. The role ensures continuous, secure information flow during daily operations and emergencies, contributing to the safety of UN personnel and the delivery of humanitarian programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Operate UN standard VHF, HF and satellite phone networks, receive dispatches and relay messages promptly.
• Maintain radio contact with all users, stations and vehicles on the inter‑agency radio network.
• Monitor 24/7 news feeds, log security incidents and provide initial emergency response in the radio room.
• Disseminate security advisories, ensure compliance with radio procedures and call‑sign discipline.
• Keep the radio room equipped, maintain documentation and report technical faults immediately.
• Assist ICT staff with equipment installation, basic technical support and field communications troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Completed secondary education; a certificate in radio telecommunications is an advantage.
• Minimum four years of experience in radio communications or related security support.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, maintain confidentiality and follow strict security protocols.

Required skills

• Proficiency in operating VHF and HF radio equipment.
• Experience with satellite phone communications.
• Maintenance and basic technical support of radio communications hardware.
• Knowledge of UN radio call‑sign systems and standard operating procedures.
