Protection Assistant – Humanitarian Protection

About the role

The Protection Assistant supports the Protection Manager in delivering case management, protection monitoring and community‑based protection activities for vulnerable populations across Sudan. The role involves direct interaction with beneficiaries, community mobilisers and other stakeholders to identify needs, map services and ensure timely assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide case management services, including needs assessments, action‑plan development, referrals and follow‑up.
• Deliver individual protection assistance (cash or in‑kind) while adhering to DRC data‑protection protocols.
• Conduct protection monitoring using focus groups, key informant interviews, observations and incident recording via KoBoToolbox.
• Engage Community‑Based Protection Networks (CBPNs) and community mobilisers in data collection and risk analysis.
• Record community feedback, complaints and actions taken, and forward data to the Protection Officer.
• Support the establishment, orientation and capacity‑building of CBPNs, including training on the Code of Conduct and PSEA.
• Maintain regular contact with Community Volunteers and CBPNs through visits, meetings, awareness sessions and campaigns.

Required profile

• Experience in humanitarian protection, case management or community outreach.
• Strong understanding of protection principles, PSEA and data‑protection standards.
• Ability to work in challenging field environments and travel across project sites.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
