Staff Health Officer

About the role

The Staff Health Officer is the focal point for all matters relating to the health of ICRC staff in the Damazine Sub‑Delegation Area of Responsibility. Working closely with on‑site medical personnel, the officer promotes and maintains both physical and mental well‑being of staff, implementing the ICRC staff health strategy across seven key domains.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct staff health briefings for all newly recruited ICRC personnel.
• Assess and supervise living conditions, promoting hygiene standards, nutrition advice and the use of protective measures such as mosquito nets and water filters.
• Evaluate local medical structures, identify referral services and monitor the quality of care available to staff.
• Provide advice and support to staff experiencing health problems and coordinate medical evacuations and repatriations.
• Liaise with the Staff Health Manager in Port Sudan to develop guidelines for medical evacuations and repatriation processes.
• Implement and supervise staff health policies, including the ICRC HIV/AIDS programme where applicable.
• Apply the ICRC MHPSS policy and collect reliable data on illnesses, accidents and absenteeism for statistical reporting.
• Review medical invoices for anonymisation and approve related expenses.

Required profile

• Experience conducting health briefings and promoting hygiene standards among staff.
• Ability to assess living conditions and recommend improvements.
• Knowledge of medical referral systems and capacity to evaluate local health services.
• Proficiency in coordinating medical evacuations and repatriation procedures.
• Familiarity with ICRC staff health policies, HIV/AIDS programmes and MHPSS guidelines.
• Strong data‑collection skills for monitoring health incidents and absenteeism.
• Capability to review and process medical invoices accurately.
