Lead Biomedical Engineer – Humanitarian Health Projects

About the role

UNOPS Sudan is seeking a Lead Biomedical Engineer to provide technical expertise for health infrastructure projects across the country. The role will support needs assessments, equipment specification, installation, and capacity‑building activities that directly improve public health outcomes in a humanitarian context.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct technical assessments and stakeholder consultations to identify gaps in health services and medical equipment needs.
• Evaluate medical asset performance, produce efficiency and safety reports, and manage warranty maintenance.
• Define and review technical specifications for medical equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory and clinical standards.
• Develop equipment lists, layout plans and cost estimates, optimizing workflow and space utilization.
• Collaborate with design and construction teams to integrate equipment into health facilities.
• Provide technical advice and support to the Project Manager and contribute to policy adaptation and project documentation.

Required profile

• Degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in health infrastructure projects, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
• Strong understanding of medical equipment standards, regulatory compliance and clinical requirements.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple technical tasks and communicate findings to diverse stakeholders.
