Human Rights Officer (P4) – Civic Space Lead

About the role
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Sudan is seeking a Human Rights Officer at the P4 level to lead its Civic Space team. Based in Khartoum, the incumbent will support the promotion and protection of human rights in Sudan, working closely with the Head of the Country Office and the Deputy.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the Civic Space team’s activities, including monitoring, reporting and advocacy.
- Provide expert analysis on human rights developments and civic space issues in Sudan.
- Prepare and contribute to reports, statements and briefing notes for senior UN officials and partners.
- Engage with government authorities, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to promote compliance with international human rights standards.
- Support the Head of the Country Office in strategic planning and programme implementation.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in law, international relations, political science or a related field.
- Significant professional experience in human rights, preferably in a conflict‑affected or transitional context.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage complex projects.
- Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills in English.
