Community Engagement Officer

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a Community Engagement Officer to lead peace‑building initiatives in Gedaref, Sudan. The role focuses on fostering coexistence, reconciliation and conflict resolution through direct engagement with local communities and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement community cohesion activities aligned with project objectives.
• Facilitate dialogues, workshops and trainings on conflict resolution, peacebuilding and reconciliation.
• Support the development of locally‑adapted peace‑building strategies.
• Provide guidance to community leaders, civil society organisations and volunteers.
• Monitor progress, identify challenges and propose adaptive measures.
• Maintain strong relationships with community members, local leaders and other stakeholders.
• Conduct regular field visits to assess needs and document impact.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in community engagement, peacebuilding or conflict resolution, preferably in humanitarian contexts.
• Understanding of the cultural and social dynamics of Sudanese communities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills.
