Communications Officer – Humanitarian (Nationals Only)

About the role

The Communications Officer will support OCHA Sudan’s humanitarian coordination by producing and disseminating a range of communications products, working closely with partners, and contributing to advocacy and information management efforts.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyse and regularly report on humanitarian developments and emergency responses across Sudan.
  • Draft and consolidate key reporting products such as flash updates, situation reports, humanitarian updates and social‑media content.
  • Prepare public information materials including press releases, talking points, human‑interest stories, campaign assets and presentations.
  • Produce or commission visual content such as photos, photo galleries, infographics, graphics and videos.
  • Collaborate with communications staff from other humanitarian organisations to develop joint advocacy strategies.
  • Participate in working groups, meetings and conferences on humanitarian and emergency‑relief matters.
  • Analyse data, create visualisations and provide insights to support decision‑making.
  • Support the review and adaptation of the Humanitarian Coordinator’s information products to meet evolving needs.

Required profile

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s) in communications, international affairs, social sciences or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years (with Master’s) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s) of progressively responsible experience in communications, journalism, humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Relevant experience in a humanitarian setting (complex emergency or natural disaster) within the UN system or comparable international organisation.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure in conflict‑affected or disaster environments.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the capacity to produce evidence‑based reports.
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender equality and inclusive communication practices.
