Communications Officer – Humanitarian Coordination (Sudan)

About the role

The Communications Officer supports OCHA’s mission in Sudan by collecting, analysing and disseminating information on humanitarian developments. The role works closely with UN partners, NGOs and other humanitarian actors to produce timely and evidence‑based communication products.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse humanitarian developments from multiple sources and produce regular evidence‑based reports.
• Draft and consolidate flash updates, situation reports, humanitarian updates and social‑media content.
• Prepare public information products such as press releases, talking points, human‑interest stories, campaign materials and visual content (photos, infographics, videos).
• Collaborate with communications staff of other humanitarian organisations to develop advocacy strategies and joint content.
• Collect and visualise data to identify trends, creating graphs, charts and tables for decision‑making.

Required profile

• Professional knowledge of humanitarian assistance, emergency relief and related human‑rights issues.
• Strong analytical capacity to interpret complex information and produce clear reports.
• Ability to work under pressure in conflict‑affected or disaster environments.
• Commitment to gender equality and inclusive participation.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.

Required skills

• Production of visual content – photography, video editing and infographic design.
• Data visualisation using charts, graphs and tables.
• Social‑media content creation and management.
