Protection Officer

About the role

The Protection Officer will work under the supervision of the Protection Manager to plan, implement and ensure quality delivery of protection activities across South Kordofan, Sudan. The role focuses on case management, protection monitoring and community‑based protection to reduce risks for vulnerable individuals and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct protection monitoring using focus groups, key informant interviews, observation and incident recording with KoBo Toolbox.
• Identify individuals at heightened protection risk through field visits, community outreach and coordination with other humanitarian actors.
• Provide comprehensive case management, including assessments, action planning, referrals and regular follow‑ups.
• Deliver individual protection assistance (cash or in‑kind) and ensure all documentation follows DRC data‑protection protocols.
• Establish, orient and build capacity of Community‑Based Protection Networks (CBPNs) and train them on the Code of Conduct and PSEA.
• Coordinate CBPNs and Community Mobilizers in data collection and contribute to regular protection monitoring reports.
• Maintain active engagement with Community Volunteers through meetings, awareness sessions, household visits and community campaigns.

Required profile

• Experience working in humanitarian protection or related fields, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Ability to conduct field‑based data collection and engage with vulnerable populations.
• Strong understanding of protection standards, case management processes and referral mechanisms.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills for working with community networks and other actors.
