Programme Management Officer

About the role

The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) seeks a Programme Management Officer to support security risk management and programme delivery in the Port Sudan field office. Reporting to the Chief Security Adviser, the incumbent will work in a challenging environment to enhance information sharing, coordinate projects and contribute to the United Nations' mission of peace, security and sustainable development.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement information‑sharing strategies with INGOs, IOs and UN entities.
• Lead and monitor programmes/projects, analysing progress and initiating corrective actions.
• Conduct research, data collection and analysis, producing background papers, reports and policy briefs.
• Coordinate policy development, surveys and outreach activities, including training workshops and seminars.
• Manage budget‑related tasks such as programme preparation, progress reporting and financial statements.
• Promote and secure extra‑budgetary funding from donors to support security initiatives.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in business administration, management, economics or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum seven years of progressive programme or project management experience, including at least three years within the UN system or comparable international organization.
• Experience working in conflict, post‑conflict or disaster settings and establishing collaborative relationships with Member States and UN entities.
• Strong analytical, planning and communication competencies, with ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under pressure.

• Proficiency in developing surveys, data‑collection tools and interpreting results.
