WASH Officer – Humanitarian Programme

About the role

The WASH Officer will provide technical leadership, coordination, quality assurance, and capacity strengthening for WASH activities delivered through Trócaire’s implementing partners in South Kordofan, Sudan. Working closely with partner WASH teams, the Officer will support planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for crisis‑affected communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical guidance for the rehabilitation of strategic water points and sanitation facilities.
• Coordinate and monitor WASH interventions to ensure compliance with humanitarian standards such as SPHERE.
• Strengthen partner capacity through training, mentorship and support of Water Management Committees and local water mechanics.
• Integrate gender, protection, disability inclusion, safeguarding, accountability to affected populations and conflict‑sensitivity into all activities.
• Oversee the provision of hygiene supplies and promote hygiene and sanitation behaviour change.
• Support partners in preparing accurate reports, data collection and performance monitoring.

Required profile

• Proven experience in WASH programming within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Ability to work collaboratively with local partners and multi‑sectoral teams.
• Strong understanding of SPHERE standards and gender‑based protection considerations.
• Excellent communication skills for technical guidance and capacity‑building activities.
