Driver

About the role

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is recruiting a driver in Khartoum, Sudan, to provide reliable and secure driving services for office vehicles under the direct supervision of the Fleet Dispatcher. The driver transports authorized personnel and handles delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, and meets officials and visitors at the airport and arranges visa and customs formalities when required.

Key responsibilities

• Drive office vehicles safely and securely, and meet officials and visitors at the airport and arrange visa and customs formalities when needed.
• Maintain daily vehicle logs and help prepare maintenance plans and reports to save costs.
• Care for the assigned vehicle: minor repairs, major repairs, oil changes, tire and brake checks, car washing and keeping it clean, secure and roadworthy.
• Keep documents and supplies available, including vehicle insurance, logs, office directory, maps, first aid kit and spare parts.
• Monitor fuel and fluid levels and coordinate scheduled servicing and repairs with the Fleet/Transport Unit.
• Carry out routine inspections of engine oil, coolant, battery, brakes, tyres and lights, and report technical defects promptly.
• Follow accident procedures: notify the office immediately, complete the required reports and cooperate with authorities.
• Perform other duties supporting UN/OCHA operational requirements.

Required profile

• Secondary education completed.
• Valid driving licence.
• Two years of work experience as a driver; safe driving record, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and experience driving safely in mountainous and swampy conditions are desired.
• Fluency in Arabic and English.

Required skills

• Minor vehicle repair skills are desired.
• Experience driving for an international organization or NGO is desired.
