Deputy Country Director – Program

About the role

Relief International is seeking a Deputy Country Director – Program to provide strategic, programmatic and operational leadership for its Sudan and Chad portfolio. Based in Port Sudan/Khartoum, the role involves frequent travel across Sudan and to Chad, overseeing multi‑sector programmes that respond to conflict, climate change and disaster impacts.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation and monitoring of health, nutrition, WASH, education and livelihoods programmes in alignment with country strategies and donor requirements.
• Manage programme budgets, ensure compliance, and drive timely, high‑quality delivery of interventions.
• Develop evidence‑based concepts, proposals and fundraising strategies to secure resources and expand programme impact.
• Strengthen MEAL, quality assurance and risk management systems to enhance accountability and learning.
• Represent Relief International with donors, authorities, partners and coordination forums while building and leading high‑performing teams.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant field or a bachelor’s degree with equivalent professional experience.
• Extensive senior leadership experience in humanitarian or development programmes.
• Proven track record working with institutional donors such as UN agencies, ECHO, US Government donors, the EU and FCDO.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large budgets and complex multi‑sector projects.
