Country Director Sudan

About the role

Welthungerhilfe seeks an experienced leader to head its Sudan country programme, overseeing humanitarian assistance and long‑term development initiatives. The role is based in Khartoum, with the office moving to Port Sudan if security conditions require.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and overall management of WHH’s country programme in a complex and evolving context.
• Lead high‑quality humanitarian and development programming, driving innovation and the Food Systems Approach.
• Ensure financial sustainability through effective resource management, stewardship and diversification of funding.
• Lead and develop a high‑performing senior management team, fostering accountability, learning and adherence to WHH values.
• Maintain strong relationships with international and national partners, and represent WHH in relevant forums.
• Oversee risk management, safeguarding, security, duty of care and business continuity.

Required profile

• Significant senior leadership experience in fragile and conflict‑affected contexts.
• Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed teams, including remote management.
• Demonstrated systems leadership linking strategy, programmes, finance, operations and partnerships.
• Extensive experience managing integrated humanitarian and development portfolios.
• Strong track record in resource mobilisation, business development and organisational sustainability.
• Full professional proficiency in English; Arabic is an asset.
