Country Director Sudan

About the role

Welthungerhilfe seeks a Country Director for Sudan to lead its humanitarian and development programmes in a complex environment. The role is based in Khartoum (or Port Sudan if security requires) and reports to the global leadership team. The director will ensure alignment with WHH’s strategy, quality standards and values while representing the organization in key forums.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and overall management of WHH’s country programme, covering humanitarian assistance, WASH, climate‑resilient agriculture and economic development.
• Lead high‑quality programme design and implementation, driving innovation through WHH’s Food Systems Approach.
• Ensure financial sustainability through effective resource management, stewardship and diversification of funding, including new institutional and private donors.
• Manage and develop a diverse senior management team, fostering a culture of accountability, learning and innovation.
• Oversee risk management, safeguarding, security, duty of care and business continuity.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with international, national NGOs, CSOs, research institutions and government bodies.
• Serve as WHH’s legal representative in Sudan and lead advocacy and communication with donors, media and public stakeholders.

Required profile

• Significant senior leadership experience in fragile and conflict‑affected contexts.
• Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed teams, including remote management.
• Demonstrated systems leadership linking strategy, programmes, finance, operations and partnerships.
• Experience in leading organizational change, transformation and crisis response.
• Strong track record in resource mobilization, business development and securing long‑term funding.
• Excellent English proficiency; Arabic is an asset.
