Country Director for Humanitarian and Development Programs

About the role

Welthungerhilfe seeks an experienced leader to head its Sudan country programme, overseeing humanitarian assistance and long‑term development initiatives across multiple states. The role is based in Khartoum, with the possibility of operating from Port Sudan if security conditions require.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and overall management of WHH’s country programme in a complex, evolving context.
• Lead high‑quality humanitarian and development programming, driving innovation and implementing WHH’s Food Systems Approach.
• Ensure financial sustainability through effective resource management, stewardship and diversification of funding sources.
• Lead and develop a high‑performing senior management team, fostering a culture of accountability, learning and innovation.
• Maintain strong relationships with international and national partners, represent WHH in relevant forums and secure new funding opportunities.

Required profile

• Significant senior leadership experience in fragile and conflict‑affected contexts.
• Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed teams, including remote management.
• Demonstrated systems leadership linking strategy, programmes, finance, operations and partnerships.
• Extensive experience managing integrated humanitarian and development portfolios and resource mobilization.
• Full professional proficiency in English; Arabic is an asset.
