Security Operations Centre Assistant

About the role

The Security Operations Centre Assistant supports the United Nations Department of Safety and Security in Sudan by managing telecommunications for security coordination. The role ensures continuous, reliable communication between field staff, headquarters and UN agencies during routine operations and emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Operate UN standard telecommunications facilities, including VHF, HF and satellite phones, to receive and relay dispatches.
• Answer all radio and telephone calls promptly and maintain continuous radio contact with UN inter‑agency networks, vehicles and field staff.
• Track missions, monitor news 24/7 and report security incidents or accidents involving UN personnel.
• Log and distribute incoming and outgoing radio, phone and messenger messages, ensuring accurate records.
• Ensure compliance with radio procedures, call‑sign discipline and standard operating protocols.
• Maintain and troubleshoot radio networks and communications equipment, reporting faults and supporting rapid service restoration.
• Assist ICT officers with installation, configuration and basic technical support for field communications gear.
• Provide training to UN implementing partners on telecommunications procedures as needed.

Required profile

• Completed secondary education; a certificate in radio telecommunications is an advantage.
• Minimum of 4 years experience operating VHF/HF radio or satellite communications in a security or humanitarian context.
