Research Consultant – Communities Care (Home‑based, travel to South Sudan)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Research Consultant to lead the design, implementation and analysis of monitoring and evaluation tools for the Communities Care programme in South Sudan. The role is home‑based with regular travel to Juba and field sites to support partners and ensure high‑quality data collection.

Key responsibilities

• Revise and adapt programme research tools, including baseline and end‑line surveys, to measure social‑norm changes.
• Develop guidance and data‑collection tools for the FCDO GBV Prevention and Support Services (GBVPSS) results framework.
• Create, adapt and implement M&E tools for GBV prevention activities, providing training and technical support to UNICEF partners.
• Deliver training and mentoring on qualitative and quantitative methods, integrating participatory and feminist approaches.
• Conduct quarterly field visits to coordinate research, training and monitoring activities and build capacity of UNICEF South Sudan staff and partners.
• Lead baseline and end‑line surveys in 14 locations, overseeing data collection, cleaning, collation and analysis, and produce comprehensive reports.
• Facilitate collaboration and information sharing among partners, local authorities and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in monitoring and evaluation, research design and data analysis for humanitarian programmes.
• Experience working on gender‑based violence (GBV) prevention and community‑based interventions.
• Ability to travel regularly to South Sudan and work in remote field settings.
