Lead Electrical Engineer

About the role

This position offers an excellent opportunity to lead and contribute to impactful infrastructure projects in Kassala, Sudan. The Lead Electrical Engineer will apply advanced electrical engineering expertise, manage projects independently, and help improve the lives of local communities while growing professionally within UNOPS.

Key responsibilities

• Independently manage the electrical engineering aspects of infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Provide technical leadership on system design, installation, testing, and commissioning of power distribution, lighting, grounding, protection and solar systems.
• Develop and adapt policies, approaches and models to meet emerging project needs.
• Supervise, mentor and support junior electrical engineers and technical staff.
• Solve complex engineering problems by applying relevant rules, regulations and best practices.
• Prepare technical specifications, drawings and documentation in line with IEC, IEEE and local standards.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering degree with several years of experience leading electrical engineering projects.
• Proven ability to manage projects independently and supervise multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and familiarity with international (IEC, IEEE) and local electrical standards.
• Experience in infrastructure or construction environments, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Excellent communication skills for client interaction and stakeholder coordination.
