Humanitarian Mine Action Assistant & Interpreter

About the role

The HMA Program Assistant / Interpreter supports non‑Arabic‑speaking members of the Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) team in Sudan. The role provides interpretation and translation during coordination meetings, technical trainings, daily briefings and safety sessions, ensuring clear and technically accurate communication between DRC staff, the National Mine Action Center, local authorities and partner organisations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consecutive interpretation between English and Arabic for HMA team members during meetings with NMAC, local authorities and partners.
• Interpret technical content during HMA and project‑management trainings for national NGOs and other humanitarian mine‑action actors.
• Support logistical and administrative tasks related to trainings and programme activities.
• Ensure accurate translation of technical terminology, working with the Arabic‑speaking Technical Field Manager as needed.
• Assist the lead trainer by conveying instructions during practical exercises, demonstrations and safety briefings.

Required profile

• Fluent in both English and Arabic, with proven experience in consecutive interpretation.
• Familiarity with humanitarian mine‑action terminology and training environments.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders in a challenging security context.
• Strong organizational skills to support coordination and administrative duties.
