Country Director, Sudan

About the role

The Country Director for Sudan will lead Save the Children’s development and emergency programmes across the country, overseeing a staff of 688 and a budget of $130 million. Reporting to the Regional Director, the role is based on‑site in Sudan and is responsible for delivering the organisation’s strategy, ensuring high‑impact programmes for children and stewarding resources responsibly.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for an annual budget of approximately $400 million across the East and Southern Africa region.
• Drive transformation to a new operating model while implementing Save the Children’s global programme strategy in Sudan.
• Develop and execute country‑level strategies, operational plans and advocacy initiatives that address the rights and needs of children.
• Oversee programme delivery, monitoring, and evaluation to achieve measurable impact.
• Build and maintain relationships with humanitarian and development partners, donors and government officials.
• Lead a senior management team, fostering a culture of learning, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Prepare and coordinate rapid response to emergencies, including cross‑border crises.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑management experience in international development or humanitarian sectors.
• Proven track record of managing large budgets and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of child rights, advocacy and programme implementation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Ability to travel internationally up to 20 % of the time.
