About the role
The Civil Engineer (Water Resources Infrastructure Development and Management) will work closely with FAO technical teams, implementing partners, government authorities and other humanitarian actors to deliver climate‑resilient water infrastructure across Sudan. Reporting to the FAO Representative and the Climate Change Program Team Leader, the incumbent will provide technical oversight from feasibility studies through design, construction supervision and hand‑over.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies and technical appraisals, evaluate engineering alternatives, perform life‑cycle cost analysis and identify project risks.
- Lead design and engineering services, including site surveys, hydraulic calculations, preparation of detailed drawings, specifications, Bills of Quantities and tender documents.
- Supervise construction, verify compliance with designs and specifications, manage contractor performance, oversee testing, pre‑commissioning and final hand‑over documentation.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering (master’s preferred).
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in planning, designing and supervising water infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of another FAO language.
- Sudanese national or resident with a valid work permit.
Required skills
- Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with hydraulic modelling tools like EPANET.
