Protection Officer

About the role

The Protection Officer will support the Protection Manager in delivering protection activities across South Kordofan, Sudan. Working directly with vulnerable individuals and communities, the officer will help reduce protection risks, strengthen community‑based mechanisms and ensure access to essential services.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct protection monitoring using focus groups, key informant interviews, observations and incident recording through KoBo Toolbox.
• Identify persons at heightened protection risk through field visits, community outreach and coordination with other humanitarian actors.
• Provide case management, including assessments, action planning, referrals and regular follow‑up.
• Deliver individual protection assistance (cash or in‑kind) and maintain documentation in line with DRC data‑protection protocols.
• Establish, orient and build capacity of Community‑Based Protection Networks, training on the Code of Conduct and PSEA.
• Coordinate CBPNs and Community Mobilizers in data collection and contribute to protection monitoring reports.
• Maintain active community volunteers through meetings, awareness sessions, household visits and campaigns.

Required profile

• Experience in protection, humanitarian assistance or related field, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Ability to work independently in remote areas and engage with diverse community groups.
• Strong understanding of protection standards, PSEA and data‑protection principles.

Required skills

• Proficiency with KoBo Toolbox for data collection and reporting.
