Monitoring, Evidence, Accountability and Learning Officer – Sudan (Geneina)

About the role

The Monitoring, Evidence, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer will support NRC’s programmes in Geneina, Sudan by ensuring robust data collection, analysis and reporting. The role contributes to programme design, safeguards compliance and promotes learning across projects.

Key responsibilities

• Adhere to NRC policies and contribute to concept note development.
• Coordinate the establishment of programme‑level MEAL systems and support log‑frame design.
• Develop and maintain data management tools, ensuring timely entry of monitoring data into GORS.
• Design data collection methodologies, tools and conduct field data collection as needed.
• Provide capacity‑building training on MEAL concepts and tools for programme staff.
• Standardise MEAL processes across projects and support outcome monitoring and research planning.
• Manage the Complaints and Feedback Mechanism (CFM), develop SOPs, and train staff on handling beneficiary feedback.
• Promote and integrate PSEA and safeguarding practices throughout the area office.

Required profile

• 1‑2 years experience in monitoring, evidence, accountability and learning within relief or development programmes.
• Experience working in complex, volatile humanitarian contexts.
• Demonstrated results related to MEAL responsibilities.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Ability to travel within Sudan and familiarity with the political and humanitarian context.

Required skills

• Strong computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Proficiency with digital data collection platforms such as KoBo, CommCare and Ona.
