Area Manager – Nuba Mountains

About the role

The Area Manager for the Nuba Mountains will lead Save the Children’s field operations, ensuring programmes are delivered in line with donor agreements, humanitarian standards and organisational policies. Reporting to the Deputy Country Director of Programs & Operations, the role oversees programme implementation, budgeting, procurement and coordination across thematic and support teams.

Key responsibilities

• Directly manage the field team responsible for implementing projects in the Nuba Mountains office, including programme, finance, supply‑chain and human‑resources functions.
• Ensure all activities are planned, resourced and monitored against work plans, procurement plans and phased budgets, with monthly reporting on financial and programme targets.
• Facilitate kick‑off and close‑out meetings, maintain effective monitoring and evaluation systems, and promote learning and feedback mechanisms.
• Prepare high‑quality internal and donor reports that support strategic decision‑making.
• Contribute to project design, ensuring new proposals align with area strategy and are feasible and adequately resourced.
• Lead contingency planning and support emergency preparedness initiatives.
• Coordinate inter‑departmental communication between thematic and support units to ensure smooth programme delivery.
• Chair weekly and monthly inter‑departmental meetings, raise field‑level issues to senior management and work closely with support departments in Port Sudan.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing multi‑disciplinary teams in complex humanitarian settings.
• Strong understanding of programme, finance, procurement and HR processes in the NGO sector.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills with the ability to track budgets and programme indicators.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and communicate effectively with donors, government and internal stakeholders.
