Protection Assistant

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking a Protection Assistant to join its Protection team in Sudan. The role supports the implementation of protection interventions, community engagement, and the delivery of behaviour‑change programmes for displaced populations.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate age‑, gender‑ and diversity‑appropriate focus group discussions and key informant interviews to identify protection concerns.
• Collect, analyse and report data on protection risks and community needs.
• Mobilise communities and conduct awareness‑raising activities on human rights and protection principles.
• Deliver the Engaging Men as Allies (EMAA) curriculum and other behaviour‑change sessions.
• Identify safe community spaces for protection activities and ensure community ownership.
• Support case identification, referral to appropriate services and mapping of referral pathways.
• Lead and support community volunteers and strengthen capacities of local structures.

Required profile

• Experience in community engagement, focus‑group facilitation and protection monitoring.
• Knowledge of protection principles, human rights and humanitarian standards.
• Ability to work with diverse populations, including persons with specific needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with affected communities and partners.
