Humanitarian Access and Safety Coordinator (Nationals Only)

About the role

NRC Sudan is looking for a Humanitarian Access and Safety Coordinator (nationals only) to support the implementation of the NRC Global Humanitarian Access and Safety (HAS) Management System at country level. The role works closely with the Area Manager and contributes to safe, principled humanitarian programming, with line management responsibility for direct reporting staff.

Key responsibilities

• Support the HAS Manager and/or Country Director in implementing the NRC Global HAS Management System, preparing reports and executing the HAS Operational Plan.
• Line management of direct reporting staff, including performance management, recruitment, induction, development and Duty of Care.
• Support the Area Manager with contextual analysis, security risk assessments (including rapid SRAs for new locations), access assessments and mitigation measures.
• Help develop country-level HAS documents such as contingency plans, access strategies and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Ensure compliance with the HAS Management System, including the HAS Policy, risk management procedures, Minimum Operating Standards and the Humanitarian Access framework.
• Organise training such as HEIST, Field First Aid and drills, and keep the HAS training tracker up to date.
• Brief management on security developments, access challenges and emerging threats, and advise on engagement with parties to the conflict when designated by management.
• Manage access, safety and security incidents at area level, document them in NRC Protect, and support emergency preparedness and contingency planning.
• Contribute to risk management, project cycle management, donor reporting and capacity building with local partners.

Required profile

• At least three years of relevant experience in a humanitarian or recovery context.
• Solid understanding of the Humanitarian Principles, NGO safety and risk management, humanitarian access and civil-military coordination.
• Experience in complex contexts and in access negotiations; experience liaising with communities, authorities and NGOs.
• Experience in risk management with implementing partners.
• Working proficiency in English and Arabic, written and spoken.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel.
• Prior experience as a trainer is an added value.
