Data Specialist – UN Resident Coordinator Office

About the role

The Data Specialist will support the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in Port Sudan by designing, implementing and maintaining data systems that enhance statistical efficiency and quality. This role collaborates with internal and external partners to provide data-driven insights that advance the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement databases, data collection systems and analytics to improve data quality and efficiency.
• Identify, analyze and interpret trends using statistical methods on both structured and unstructured data sources.
• Create reports, dashboards and visualisations to summarise findings for management.
• Document requirements, methodologies and standards for data processes.
• Lead production of data products such as reports or newsletters and draft inputs for various UN documents.
• Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists and other UN agencies to improve data flows and quality.
• Provide capacity‑building training on data analytics for staff and partners.
• Support monitoring, evaluation and learning activities in coordination with the MEL group and national counterparts.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s) in a quantitative field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience translating business requirements into technical data solutions.
• Professionalism, strong communication and strategic planning abilities as outlined in UN competency framework.
• Experience conducting outcome‑level analysis, mixed‑methods studies and model evaluation.

Required skills

• Data visualisation tools: Tableau, Power BI, Qlik.
• Statistical programming language: R.
• Data storytelling and creation of interactive/static visualisations.
• Quality assurance of data analysis outputs.
• Strong analytical thinking and ability to work with large data sets.
