Communications Officer, SC8 Port Sudan

About the role

The WFP Sudan Communications Unit is looking for a Communications Officer to cover planning, developing and delivering high-quality multimedia content packages and final products, human impact stories and donor visibility. The aim is to position WFP as a partner of choice. The position is based in Port Sudan and will move to Khartoum as the situation permits, lasts 12 months and reports to the Head of Communications.

Key responsibilities

• Draft communication plans for WFP's resilience projects in Sudan, working with programme focal points, the partnership unit and the communications unit.
• Track contractual donor communications and visibility commitments, ensure they are fulfilled before grant expiration, and prepare visibility sections for donor reports.
• Create donor-specific visibility content (text, photos, videos, interviews) for social media and donor engagements, consistent with corporate messages.
• Plan, coordinate and run content collection missions covering WFP activities in the resilience portfolio.
• Research, analyse and distribute information products to the target audience.
• Develop multimedia products, including human impact stories tailored to donors.
• Film and edit video content for digital and broadcast distribution.
• Use platforms, networks and partners to expand coverage of WFP activities.
• Train field staff and partners on taking high-quality photos and videos and capturing human impact stories.

Required profile

• First university degree in communications, journalism, public relations, international relations or a related field.
• Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience developing, planning and executing communication plans and branding.
• Experience in print, broadcast and digital media is an added advantage.
• Excellent written and oral English and Arabic.

Required skills

• Strong writing, scripting and storytelling skills.
• Strong photography and videography skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and graphic design or visualization tools, including video editing.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
