Area Director – Kordofan and White Nile

About the role

The Area Director will lead Save the Children’s humanitarian and development programmes across the Kordofan and White Nile regions of Sudan, ensuring safe, accountable and high‑quality interventions for children affected by conflict and displacement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement regional strategies, operational plans and multi‑year programmes aligned with country and donor priorities.
• Oversee programme design, quality assurance and integration across sectors such as education, health, nutrition, WASH, protection and livelihoods.
• Manage the regional budget, approve expenditures, monitor financial performance and ensure compliance with donor rules.
• Lead a senior management team, set performance objectives, conduct regular reviews and build staff capacity.
• Maintain robust MEAL systems, community feedback mechanisms and safeguarding procedures.
• Coordinate with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs and local partners to secure access, advocate for children’s rights and represent Save the Children in coordination forums.
• Conduct continuous security and risk assessments, update SOPs and ensure staff adherence to safety and compliance policies.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading multi‑sector humanitarian programmes in complex, conflict‑affected settings.
• Strong knowledge of donor compliance, financial management and procurement processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large teams, build partnerships and represent an organization at senior stakeholder levels.
• Excellent analytical skills for contextual analysis, risk management and adaptive programming.
