Victim Assistance Officer – Humanitarian Mine Action

About the role

The Victim Assistance Officer will lead the launch of victim assistance programming within the Danish Refugee Council’s Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) project in Sudan. The role focuses on ensuring survivors of explosive ordnance incidents receive timely medical care, rehabilitation, psychosocial support, livelihood assistance and effective referral pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Map existing medical, rehabilitation, assistive technology, MHPSS, protection, legal aid, social protection and livelihood services for explosive ordnance survivors in priority locations.
• Identify gaps, quality issues, access barriers, costs and documentation requirements affecting survivor access.
• Develop and maintain a practical service directory and referral pathway, including hospitals and rehabilitation providers.
• Support the selection and engagement of local partners such as disability‑led organisations, survivor networks, health providers and national NGOs.
• Coordinate with the National Mine Action Center and DRC protection, case‑management and referral teams to ensure integrated service delivery.
• Monitor implementation of victim assistance activities and report on progress, challenges and outcomes.

Required profile

• Experience working in humanitarian programmes, preferably in protection, case management or mine action.
• Knowledge of explosive ordnance victim assistance and referral mechanisms.
• Ability to conduct field assessments, analyse service gaps and produce actionable recommendations.
• Strong coordination and stakeholder‑engagement skills, including with local NGOs and government bodies.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
