Deputy Country Director – Programs

About the role

The Deputy Country Director for Programs supports the Country Director in shaping and executing Action Against Hunger’s strategic programme agenda in Sudan. This senior position ensures that each sector’s strategy is coherent, context‑relevant and aligned with the organisation’s technical expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the mission’s fundraising and business development strategy, designing a multi‑year plan that matches Sudan’s operational priorities.
• Diversify the donor portfolio, identify new funding opportunities, and build strategic partnerships and consortia.
• Develop and maintain relationships with institutional donors, foundations, UN agencies and private‑sector partners, positioning Action Against Hunger as a key humanitarian and resilience actor.
• Manage the proposal pipeline, ensuring early opportunity identification and improving success rates through strong positioning and donor intelligence.
• Support the creation of large, multi‑year funding proposals and oversee their quality and alignment with donor guidelines.

Required profile

• Advanced studies in law, political science, sociology or a related field, with specific humanitarian or development focus.
• In‑depth knowledge of Action Against Hunger’s sectors in Sudan (Health & Nutrition, WASH, Food Security & Livelihoods, Protection).
• Strong understanding of humanitarian and development donor guidelines and procedures.
• Proven ability to analyse information and make strategic decisions in complex environments.
