Deputy Chief of Mission – P-5 (Fixed‑term, 1 year)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Deputy Chief of Mission (DCoM) to support the Chief of Mission in Sudan. This senior P‑5 position is a fixed‑term appointment of one year, with the possibility of extension, and is responsible for ensuring coherence between programmes and support services while advancing IOM’s migration mandate.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chief of Mission in overseeing programme implementation, ensuring alignment with the Country Office strategy and donor expectations.
• Represent IOM in engagements with national authorities, diplomatic corps, donors, NGOs and other partners.
• Lead the formulation and revision of country strategies, policies and operational approaches across IOM’s portfolio.
• Identify emerging migration needs and develop new programmes in coordination with the Programme Support Unit.
• Strengthen risk management, compliance and reporting functions within the Country Office.
• Support resource mobilisation and maintain effective relationships with governmental and non‑governmental stakeholders.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in migration, humanitarian or development programmes, preferably at senior UN or international organization level.
• Proven track record in programme management, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.
• Strong understanding of donor requirements, risk management and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with senior government and diplomatic officials.
