Protocol Officer (UNISFA)

About the role

The Protocol Officer supports the Mission Chief of Staff in managing all protocol and host‑country liaison matters for UNISFA. Based in Khartoum, the role ensures smooth interaction with Sudanese authorities, diplomatic missions and UN entities, facilitating official engagements and travel.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison between UNISFA and the Government of Sudan on protocol, host‑country and official liaison matters.
• Provide protocol advice and coordination for senior officials, including meetings, official visits, travel, visa and accreditation processes.
• Arrange and monitor meetings and engagements with host‑government authorities, diplomatic missions and other stakeholders.
• Accompany senior officials on official travel to resolve protocol and host‑country issues.
• Plan, coordinate and oversee protocol‑related ceremonies, logistical arrangements and special requirements for visiting dignitaries.
• Advise mission personnel on host‑country procedures, visa extensions, privileges, immunities and local laws.
• Coordinate flight clearances, customs clearance, duty‑free privileges and VAT exemptions for UNISFA shipments and personnel.
• Maintain tracking systems for note verbales and clearance requests, ensuring timely follow‑up.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Foreign Affairs or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible protocol experience with government or international organisations, including accreditation, duty‑free and VAT exemption processes.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Host Country Agreement, privileges and immunities, and diplomatic protocol.
• Strong analytical, risk‑assessment and decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic; French is an asset.
