MEAL Coordinator – Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning

About the role

The MEAL Coordinator will lead Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) activities for Welthungerhilfe’s country programme in Sudan. Reporting to senior management, the role ensures that evidence on food systems, climate resilience and humanitarian action is rigorous, ethical and informs adaptive management.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and periodically review the Country MEAL Strategy and action plan aligned with the organisation’s standards and donor requirements.
• Establish and maintain MEAL standards, procedures, tools and quality‑assurance mechanisms for WHH and partner‑implemented programmes.
• Provide evidence‑based advice to senior leadership on programme performance, risks, evidence gaps and opportunities for adaptation.
• Translate the Country Strategy into an integrated performance and learning framework and coordinate regular portfolio reviews.
• Offer technical leadership and quality assurance across programme design, theories of change, logframes, indicators, sampling, data‑collection tools and evaluation requirements.
• Lead and develop MEAL staff, build capacity of programme teams and partners, and embed learning and adaptive management across the portfolio.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree (e.g., Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, or related field).
• Minimum 5 years experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning within humanitarian or development programmes.
• Demonstrated experience managing MEAL functions, including data management, quality assurance and reporting.
• Strong understanding of food systems, climate resilience and humanitarian contexts.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
