Safety and Liaison Officer

About the role

The Safety and Liaison Officer will support the implementation of safety policies and liaison activities for DRC’s operations in Gedaref, ensuring staff protection and compliance with DRC’s global safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Safety Manager in applying regional safety policies, SOPs and tracking staff movements.
• Provide safety briefings, orientation and training on safety procedures, risk assessments and incident management.
• Maintain contacts with government offices, obtain permits and support liaison coordination for technical agreements.
• Monitor safety incidents, conduct field assessments and produce regular reports and trend analyses.
• Supervise security guards, drivers and ensure compliance with physical and asset protection protocols.

Required profile

• 2‑3 years of safety and security experience in a humanitarian organization (NGO/INGO/UN).
• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, peace & conflict studies, disaster management or related field.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Arabic.
• Knowledge of the Gedaref context is essential.

Required skills

• Safety policy implementation and SOP development.
• Risk assessment and safety level system (SLS) reviews.
• Incident reporting, analysis and lessons‑learned documentation.
• Coordination with government authorities and liaison for permits.
