Pharmacist – Pharmaceutical Services Lead for Humanitarian Programme

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a qualified Pharmacist to lead pharmaceutical services for its health and nutrition programme in South and West Kordofan, Sudan. The role ensures the availability, quality, safety and appropriate use of essential medicines in a challenging humanitarian environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and develop pharmaceutical strategies, risk‑mitigation measures and improvement plans aligned with IRC standards and WHO guidelines.
• Lead quantification, forecasting, procurement support and supply planning for essential medicines and health commodities.
• Oversee storage, distribution, stock management and documentation across warehouses and health facilities, including hard‑to‑reach areas.
• Maintain and update the country‑specific Essential Drug List and manage approval processes for non‑listed medicines.
• Identify pharmaceutical risks, implement quality assurance procedures and ensure continuity of supply.
• Build capacity of local staff through training, mentorship and supervision.

Required profile

• Pharmacy degree with professional registration.
• Proven experience in pharmaceutical supply chain management within humanitarian or low‑resource settings.
• Strong knowledge of WHO Good Storage and Distribution Practices and national pharmaceutical regulations.
• Ability to work in insecure, displaced‑population contexts and adapt to limited resources.
