WASH Officer – Humanitarian Water, Sanitation & Hygiene

About the role

The WASH Officer will provide technical leadership, coordination and quality assurance for water, sanitation and hygiene activities delivered through Trócaire’s implementing partners in South Kordofan, Sudan. Reporting to the Programme Manager, the role is based in Heiban County and involves frequent travel to project sites.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance to partners on the rehabilitation of strategic water points, hygiene promotion, and the distribution of hygiene kits.
• Support partners in developing detailed WASH implementation plans, budgets, procurement specifications and activity schedules.
• Ensure all WASH interventions meet humanitarian standards such as SPHERE and incorporate gender, protection, disability inclusion, safeguarding and conflict‑sensitivity.
• Conduct joint monitoring visits, technical supervision and spot checks to assess implementation quality and progress.
• Strengthen the capacity of partner WASH staff, community water committees and local mechanics through coaching, mentoring and training.
• Facilitate the establishment and training of inclusive Water Management Committees to promote community ownership and sustainability.
• Coordinate with local authorities, humanitarian coordination mechanisms and other sectors (health, nutrition, food security, protection) to ensure integrated programming.
• Support partners in monitoring WASH indicators, improving data quality and preparing accurate technical reports for donor reporting.
