Fire Safety Assistant – UNISFA (Abyei)

About the role

The Fire Safety Assistant supports the Fire Safety Officer in delivering 24/7 fire protection, HAZMAT response and emergency management for the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) mission.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in managing fire services, including control of fire incidents, hazardous material spills and other emergencies.
• Patrol mission compounds and offices to identify and rectify fire and safety hazards.
• Help draft and update the Fire Safety Plan and Emergency Evacuation Plan, and coordinate drills and training for staff.
• Conduct fire investigations, recommend preventive measures and ensure firefighting equipment is maintained and correctly positioned.
• Lead firefighting and building‑evacuation drills and respond immediately to fires, rescues or other emergencies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational certificate in fire and rescue, dangerous goods, fire medical assistance or related field.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Minimum three years of relevant security‑related experience (military, police, fire‑fighting, UN security operations, personal protection, protective driving, access‑control systems).
• Proficiency in English (UN Level II) and French is an asset.
• Demonstrated professionalism, teamwork and commitment to continuous learning.
